BFR Section #7 The Latigo Knot

The Latigo Knot can be a bit tricky at first, but I promise you, with a little bit of practice it will become second nature.

             The “Long Latigo” is the leather strap that hangs on the left side of the saddle. It’s purpose is to attach to the big metal ring of the cinch (the strap that goes around the horse) and hold the saddle firmly in place.

It is important to know how to tie a secure latigo knot so the saddle stays safely in place.

There are several ways to tie a latigo knot that are practiced around the world. The method shown below is the one we use at Flying G. We ask that all our students use this method while saddling so as not to cause confusion when a staff member does a cinch-check after mounting.
